Rina Croft was inspired to write Bobbie Bin by her young son’s early fascination with garbage trucks and the sanitation workers in their neighborhood. From the time he was barely a year old, he eagerly watched for the weekly collection, eventually taking on the responsibility of sorting and rolling out the bins himself as soon as he was able. Their shared routine often turned into small adventures, following garbage trucks through nearby streets.

When her son was three, he asked for a story about a sanitation worker. When none could be found, he suggested, “Let’s make up our own.” That moment sparked Bobbie Bin.
Her son stayed closely involved throughout the process, helping shape the story along the way. What began as a simple bedtime idea grew into a fully illustrated book celebrating the everyday heroes who keep communities clean—and the imagination that brought it to life.
